The first word changes everything. Jesus could have taught us to begin with “My Father.” He did not. He said, “Our Father.” Before the prayer ever reaches my need, it establishes our relationship to one another.
That little word keeps confronting the instinct to turn faith into a private transaction between me and God. The prayer will return to the plural again and again: give us, forgive us, lead us, deliver us. Even the bread is ours.
When My Blessing Is Not Enough
I have lived long enough to learn that my personal order cannot completely insulate me from the disorder around me. If I have bread and everyone around me is starving, their hunger will eventually knock on my door. Someone will need help. Someone will borrow. Someone may become dependent. Someone may even cross a boundary and take what was never offered.
That does not make generosity foolish.
It makes community real.
Jesus refuses to let me pray as though my neighbor’s condition has nothing to do with mine.
Kingdom-mindedness asks God to establish the people around me too.
This is why unity is not decorative Christianity. Psalm 133 pictures blessing flowing through a people dwelling together in unity. Order moves through relationship. The first word of the prayer makes me responsible to see beyond myself.
Kingdom Check
Where has your faith become “me and God” when Jesus keeps teaching you to pray “our” and “us”?
Today’s Practice
Identify one person whose stability, provision, healing, or growth you usually treat as “their problem.” Pray specifically for God’s order in that area of their life, then ask whether there is a healthy way for you to participate without becoming their god.
Prayer
Our Father, enlarge my prayer beyond myself. Teach me to care about the people around me without trying to control or replace You in their lives. Establish us together. Amen.

This prayer I had to repeat , it’s so easy for us to try to control the narratives for the lives of others versus letting God be God. Let go and Let God, I needed this!
